Gournes rail (01) :

We will leave from your accommodation from Gournes Pediados. We cycle towards the old church (from 1700) on an off-road track.

After approximately 10 kilometers we will stop in Galipe for coffee in a typical Cretan village kafenion. After Galifa we will follow a long off-road track to Episkopi.

There will be lots of sight seeing during this cycle track. You will pass an ancient Middle age bridge and lots of olive trees and wine yards. In this area you are able to find lots of kalderinies, these are the old donkey paths in between Cretan villages. In the old days, these kalderinies were the only connection between villages on Crete.

We will enjoy our lunch in the afternoon in Astraki, a beautiful village, undiscovered by tourism. After our lunch we will continue our tour through a mountain landscape with lots of wine yards back to Gournes. We will cycle back over the white donkey road, we named this track after the two white donkeys who where there for many years! You will pass a special spot where a lot of turtles live. Some turtles can become about 40 centimeters long! We will cycle through Koxai to the cave of Skotino. You are able to visit this special cave inside. After our visit to the cave of Skotino we will cycle back to Gournes.

This cycle tour is approximately 62 kilometers long. We cycle through mountains and hills on sandy tracks with stones.
